A Match Made in Heaven

A full-length screenplay by Marian Partee
Based on an idea by Lisa Bloom Cohen

JILL: So what do you guys do?

HAROLD: We match destined soulmates.

JILL: Online?

MILT: Um… no.

HAROLD: We’re basically counselors.

MILT: And marriage is our specialty.

HAROLD (to Emily): Do you think you’ve met your soulmate?

EMILY: I don’t even know if I believe in soulmates anymore.

HUNTER: I do.

MILT: Good for you.

HUNTER: Sure. Romeo and Juliet. Antony and Cleopatra. Samson and Delilah.

EMILY: All those stories ended in horrible deaths.

HUNTER: Oh. Well, look at TomKat. Brangelina. Bennifer 2.

MILT: Huh?

HUNTER They’ve all got the real thing. You just haven’t dated the right guy yet.

HAROLD I couldn’t agree more. You need to get acquainted with your drooly.

EMILY: My what?

HAROLD Your swoony. Your bunny boy. Your heaven sent.

Harold and Milt, two bumbling, match-making angels, haven’t been to Earth since 1948. Due to several courtships gone awry under their supervision, they’ve been stuck on cloud maintenance. Their boss, Celeste, gives them one last chance to prove their mettle: They must pair up Emily, a needy, promiscuous writer for an edgy teen fashion magazine, and Ted, a commitment-phobic gerontologist. In modern L.A., rife with casual hook-ups, the angels have three months to convince the couple that old-fashioned, romantic courtship is worth rediscovering.
